The art of Tuscan Sandstone

Michelangelo began his artistic career in Florence, working with Tuscan Sandstone (Pietra Serena) that was extracted from the quarries in the hills of Fiesole.

This stone, both for its color and for its grain and geological formation, is almost identical to the Tuscan Sandstone from Firenzuola. The works completed with this material, by Brunelleschi, Vassari and other artists and Renaissance designers over the centuries, are numerous.

Use of Tuscan Sandstone

Not only construction and Renaissance art have found uses for Tuscan Sandstone. Its use fits well with modern building, particularly for cladding, flooring, window framing, frames, doorways, interior and exterior refinishing, stairs, columns, fireplace veneers, etc.
